Feyenoord Football School in Egypt opens

Feyenoord Football School in Egypt opened its doors in Ismailia on Wednesday with an official ceremony that attracted a lot of attention from the media and the general public.

A partnership agreement for the opening of the commercial soccer academy was signed at De Kuip earlier this year. It will be active at several locations in the Egypt, starting with Ismaïlia and Cairo.

Under the agreement, Feyenoord coaches will travel to Egypt at various times during the year to train local coaches and share coaching methods used in Feyenoord’s own youth academy in Rotterdam. ‘For us, this partnership is a way to enlarge our network and increase awareness of our brand in Egypt,’ said Gido Vader, Feyenoord’s international relations manager, who attended the official opening on Wednesday together with international development coaches Melvin Boel and Luka Lalic.

‘Furthermore, we obviously receive remuneration for the knowledge and knowhow we share,’ said Vader. ‘We got down to work immediately this week, training the first twenty coaches in an intensive course.’

A big gala was held in Caïro to mark the opening of Feyenoord Football School Egypt. Many Egyptian football stars was present, including former Feyenoord players Sherif Ekramy, Hossam Ghaly and Haytham Farouk, as well as Egyptian international Mohamed Salah, who is contracted to AS Roma.
