Feyenoord sweep away PEC Zwolle within 45 minutes

Feyenoord returned to Eredivisie action in outstanding fashion on Sunday. Arne Slot’s side powered over the league’s bottom-placed club PEC Zwolle at an empty De Kuip. The match ended 4-0, with all the goals coming in the first half.
The big unknown going into the fixture was how the hosts would cope without their fans. Feyenoord had already picked up five home wins and the home crowd had clearly been a major factor in that achievement. But even forced to play in front of empty stands, Arne Slot’s men showed huge commitment and generated a great deal of energy. That made Feyenoord’s first-half display all the more pleasing.

The hosts took complete control and never really let go until the referee called them off at the break. By then, Feyenoord were four goals to the good. The first two arrived within nine minutes, courtesy of Bryan Linssen and Luis Sinisterra. For his opener Linssen had Orkun Kökcü to thank for a cute through-ball, while Sinisterra made and netted the second all by himself.

The third of the afternoon was a sheer delight. Marcos Senesi sprayed out a beautiful pass from the back, launching Sinisterra. The Colombian got to the bye-line before teeing it up for Linssen, who claimed his second of the match from close in. Not to be outdone, Guus Til also got in on the act before half time. It means the duo are now joint top scorers in the Eredivisie with eight goals each.

Feyenoord geared down after the restart as PEC Zwolle looked to damage limitation. As a result, Slot was able to introduce five substitutes, including three strikers, but ultimately the home side were unable to add to their lead. Cyriel Dessers went closest. He looked to have grabbed a goal for himself in time added on, but he was denied by the keeper.

The fourth win on the bounce in the Eredivisie was never in danger, however, and now Feyenoord’s attention turns to Europe, with a trip to Czech capital scheduled for Wednesday. Slavia Prague provide the Europa Conference League Group E opposition.
