Feyenoord unable to find a breakthrough in Enschede

Feyenoord could only manage a goalless draw at FC Twente in the Eredivisie on Sunday. The visitors warranted a better return after controlling most of the match, but despite effectively shutting out the hosts, Arne Slot’s men were unable to get a goal themselves and had to be content with a point.

Ofir Marciano made his Eredivisie debut in goal for Feyenoord, but had little to do. The Israeli keeper was only called upon once in the opening 45 minutes, saving a low shot from Ramiz Zerrouki. His colleague Lars Unnerstall Tay the other end had a much busier afternoon.

Before the break the chances could be counted on one hand, but Feyenoord upped the tempo in the second half, and the hosts’ keeper had to be sharp. The German goalie was forced into saves from Fredrik Aursnes, Bryan Linssen, Linssen’s replacement Cyriel Dessers and others.

Dessers was denied time and again by Unnerstall, but he almost managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat in injury time. He has made a name for himself as a late saviour for Feyenoord, but with the clock three minutes past the 90, his hard shot was deflected away off the keeper’s legs.
