Point less than Feyenoord deserve against sc Heerenveen

Feyenoord dominated for 90 minutes at De Kuip on Saturday evening, but ultimately came up short. Arne Slot’s side had lots of possession and territory but were unable to find the breakthrough as sc Heerenveen escaped with a 0-0 draw.

Many fans had long looked forward to the first home match of the 2022-2023 Eredivisie season. It was the chance to see a whole raft of new arrivals in action for the first time at De Kuip and the remodelled team did not disappoint. The attacking mindset that so characterised Feyenoord last season was very much on display in this team too.

Debutants
Visiting keeper Andries Noppert certainly had a busy Saturday evening. New signings Javairo Dilrosun, Sebastian Szymański, Quinten Timber and Jacob Rasmussen all had efforts on goal, but Noppert’s clean sheet remained intact, with a little help from the bar on one occasion

Santiago Gimenez came off the bench to make his bow in the second half, but he too was unable to find the back of the net. The first Mexican to wear a Feyenoord shirt did get a sniff in the final stages, but couldn’t keep the ball down when shooting from close in. Another substitute was closer to breaking the deadlock. Jens Toornstra was in exactly the right place to meet a high ball, but his volley was kept out by Noppert’s legs.

RKC away

In the end, then, Feyenoord had to do with a point, leaving them on four from two matches. Next up is an awayday in Waalwijk at RKC next Sunday. The next home match in two weeks is another Saturday evening fixture. FC Emmen provide the opposition in that one. Secure your seats at the Online Ticketshop now.
