Feyenoord sign midfielder João Carlos Teixeira
João Carlos Teixeira penned a two-year contract at De Kuip on Friday morning. The 27-year-old Portuguese midfielder joins the club from Vitoría Guimarães. As part of the deal, Feyenoord have an option to extend Teixeira’s stay one further season past the summer of 2022.
Teixeira is a product of the SC Braga youth academy. He made the switch to Sporting Lisbon in 2004 and stayed there for more than eight years, before moving to Liverpool in 2012.
The right-footed midfielder has been back in his homeland for the past few seasons. In the curtailed 2019-2020 season Teixeira made thirty appearances for Vitoría Guimarães, scoring ten goals and claiming three assists.
‘In João Teixeira we add a versatile midfielder to the squad,’ says technical director Frank Arnesen. ‘With his qualities, including his goal record and his forward drive, he gives us the desired extra option in midfield. He’s also been at big clubs in the top leagues. He brings that experience with him to Feyenoord too.’
Teixeira jumps straight into squad training with his new teammates at the 1908 complex on Friday. He will wear the number 20 jersey.
