Feyenoord start preparation with derby win

Feyenoord beat Sparta Rotterdam 3-0 on Sunday in the first friendly ahead of the start of the 2020-2021 season. All three goals came before the break. Róbert Bozeník grabbed two, while Crysencio Summerville also claimed a strike.

Dick Advocaat’s men got off to a great start, marked by slick passing and two early goals from Róbert Bozeník. The Slovakian striker nodded in an inch-perfect Ridgeciano Haps cross on 13 minutes, before doubling his side’s lead scarcely two minutes later.

Bozeník could not have netted his opener without Haps, but his second on 15 minutes was all his own work. The striker bore down on the Sparta Rotterdam goal, beating the last defender before scoring with a shot that went in off the inside the bar.

First goal at De Kuip
Crysencio Summerville was given his chance to impress with a starting place and the young winger made the most of his opportunity. Returning to Feyenoord after a season on loan to ADO Den Haag, Summerville hooked up with Marouan Azarkan before netting his first goal at De Kuip with a precise drive to put his side 3-0 up.

At the break Advocaat made wholesale changes, with Mark Diemers, Bryan Linssen, George Johnston and Ramon Hendriks among the debutants. The hosts, with nine substitutes in all, were unable to add to their lead and Sparta Rotterdam claimed the best chances. Feyenoord keeper Nick Marsman was in no mood to miss out on a clean sheet, though, so the match ended without any further scoring.

FC Twente up next
Feyenoord are hosts again next week, with FC Twente to visit De Kuip in another warm-up. As the country continues to wage war on the coronavirus the Rotterdam derby was witnessed by a modest crowd of 3,000, but the club is yet to receive permission to sell any tickets for the FC Twente match.

The experiences from the Sparta match will be assessed before any further decision is taken. Keep an eye on official club channels for developments as they are announced.
