Feyenoord take Oguzhan Özyakup on loan

Feyenoord have reached a loan agreement with Besiktas for Oguzhan Özyakup. The Dutch-born 27-year-old will spend the rest of the season at De Kuip. Özyakup, who has played 43 times for the Turkish national side. Passed a medical this morning and joins Dick Advocaat’s squad immediately.

Oguzhan Özyakup was at AZ Alkmaar’s youth academy, before moving to Arsenal at age 15 in 2009. The Premier League club offered him his first professional contract a year later. In the summer of 2012, he sealed a transfer to Besiktas and has represented the Istanbul outfit 268 times, including in a 2014 Champions League qualifier against Feyenoord.

Technical director Frank Arnesen sees Özyakup – who will wear the number 18 jersey – as a good addition to the squad. ‘With the departure of a few players we really wanted to have an extra player who could be called upon in midfield immediately. With Oguzhan we are obviously bringing in a huge amount of experience. Normally, Feyenoord would not be able to land someone like him, but he really wanted to come to us for the rest of the season. By being creative, and with thanks to Besiktas, he is now coming to strengthen us and we are done with this window, at least with regard to bring in new players.’
