Feyenoord add Mark Diemers to the squad

Mark Diemers has been confirmed as Feyenoord’s first signing ahead of next season. The 26-year-old arrives from Fortuna Sittard. After passing a medical Diemers today signed a three-year deal, committing his future to the club until at least mid-2023.

Technical director Frank Arnesen is happy with the arrival of the middle-of-the-park man. ‘We see Diemers as a good addition to our midfield. He’s a hard worker with a good pass and a fine shot. A player with the necessary experience in the Eredivisie who’s ready for the next step: sparkling at Feyenoord.’

Coach Dick Advocaat is also delighted that the club has landed Diemers. 'He made a strong impression on me in the three games Feyenoord played against Fortuna Sittard last season. The other games I have seen him in also show that he has the qualities that we at Feyenoord could really use.’

For Diemers himself the dominant emotion was pride. ‘I could never have imagined this around two or three years ago. That a great club like Feyenoord came in for me makes me proud. I was at 1908 last week for a talk with the coaches. It was first-rate. I will have to work hard for my place, but I’m do my utmost for that.’

Diemers has been playing in the Eredivisie since 2012. The Frisian has represented FC Utrecht, Cambuur, De Graafschap and, most recently, Fortuna Sittard, for whom he netted seven goals and claimed six assists in 26 Eredivisie appearances last season.
