Leroy Fer agrees Alanyaspor switch

Leroy Fer’s immediate departure from Feyenoord has been confirmed after the 31-year-old midfielder finalised terms with Turkish Süper Lig side Alanyaspor. Fer was under contract at De Kuip until mid-2022.
After graduating from Feyenoord Academy in 2007 and spending four years as a first-team squad member at the club Fer moved onto new challenges. But he returned to Feyenoord in the summer of 2019 and soon become a first-team regular, making 34 competitive appearances for the club in his first season back. That included a run to the final of the KNVB Cup, which was never played after the coronavirus pandemic ended the season prematurely. In total Fer played 193 competitive matches for Feyenoord over his two spells at the club, scoring 21 goals.

‘Given the expectation that he would play less at Feyenoord this season and the phase he has entered in his career, Leroy wanted to make a switch,’ explained technical director Frank Arnesen. ‘The interest from Alanyaspor meant there was an opportunity there. We are grateful to Leroy for what he has given the club both on and off the pitch and we wish him great success.’

Leroy Fer had a special message for the Feyenoord fans and everyone at the club: ‘I would prefer to thank you all personally by name. My teammates, the staff, everyone at the club and of course the fans. My return to Feyenoord two years ago felt like a homecoming. Especially because the club and the fans welcomed me with open arms. I’m very happy and grateful to everyone for that. I’m going to miss everyone hugely. I want to give Feyenoord my best wishes and I will certainly be following you.’
