Malacia matchwinner against Cambuur

Feyenoord followed up Thursday’s 3-1 victory against FC Union Berlin with a three-pointer at SC Cambuur in the Eredivisie on Sunday. Bryan Linssen, Fredrik Aursnes and Tyrell Malacia were the scorers for the visitors in Leeuwarden.

Arne Slot’s side started well but found themselves behind after 23 minutes. SC Cambuur had opted for a counterattacking style and that paid handsome dividends when the hosts broke quickly, with striker David Sambissa finishing off the move. Feyenoord’s response was immediately: two minutes later Bryan Linssen headed in the leveller.

The sides looked likely to go in at the break all-square, but Feyenoord had other ideas, edging ahead in the dying seconds of the first half. Fredrik Aursnes, who had been handed a starting place ahead of Alireza Jahanbakhsh, netted with a crisp drive to claim his first goal for Feyenoord.

SC Cambuur continued to allow Feyenoord plenty of possession in the second half, relying on their ability to counter and the strategy delivered again as David Sambissa notched his second of the afternoon on 50 minutes. But like Fury against Wilder, Feyenoord dusted themselves down and came out punching hard again. Within eight minutes Tyrell Malacia had restored the visitors’ lead with a perfectly struck shot from outside the box. It would turn out to be the winner.

There’s no midweek game for Feyenoord next week, so Arne Slot’s side will have time to prepare for the Rotterdam derby. The game at Sparta Rotterdam’s Het Kasteel stadium is scheduled for Sunday 31 October (kick-off 12:15 CET).
