Agreement in principle: Geertruida extension until 2024

Feyenoord and Lutsharel Geertruida have reached an oral agreement on a contract extension. The defender will sign a new deal that binds him to the club for a further two years through to mid-2024.

‘It’s great we have been able to agree terms,’ said a satisfied technical director Frank Arnesen. ‘Being Feyenoord, we want to tie down our promising young players long-term. We’ve already managed that with players like Orkun Kökcü and Luis Sinisterra, and recently Tyrell Malacia and Justin Bijlow too. That fact that we’re able to add Lutsharel to that list is very positive. He has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years and we’re convinced he’ll continue that development once he’s back completely fit again.’

‘As a boy who’s grown up here in Rotterdam South there’s nothing better than the prospect of continuing to wear the Feyenoord shirt for years to come and continuing my development here at the club,’ said a proud Lutsharel Geertruida. ‘From day one my goal has been to stay at this fantastic club. So I’m happy that the club and myself can confirm today that we have an oral agreement. My rehab is going in the right direction. I feel I’ve got stronger, and I cannot wait to get back as soon as possible and play again in the fabulous De Kuip when it’s full.’

The 21-year-old has been at Feyenoord since 2012. Born and raised in Rotterdam, Geertruida advanced through all the age grades at Feyenoord Academy, making his first-team debut in 2017. His breakout season was 2020-2021, when he became a first-team regular, showing his attacking prowess by claiming eight goals and two assists.
