Robin van Persie officially joins Feyenoord staff

Robin van Persie is set to return to Feyenoord in an official capacity next season. Van Persie, who won 102 caps for the Dutch national side, returns to the club where he began and ended his professional career to lead the U16s at Feyenoord Academy together with Brian Pinas. He will also remain active with the first team as a support coach on training days.

Van Persie has assisted Feyenoord training sessions on an occasional basis for the past two seasons, mainly focusing on the strikers. This arrangement will now be formalised under incoming head coach Arne Slot, who joins the club ahead of the 2021-2022 campaign.

Oranje’s all-time top scorer, Van Persie was a frequent visitor to Varkenoord last season, helping Feyenoord Academy U15 coach Gaston Taument among others.

‘After the end of my professional career I was mainly focused on getting my bearings on what football can offer that I enjoy doing,’ says Van Persie. ‘Along with my management team at SEG I looked at activities that are a good fit for me. So, I’m really happy to be able to pass on my knowledge from my professional career to the new generation on a daily basis next season. And being able to do that at Feyenoord makes it extra special. This gives me a lot of energy and it also feels good to be able to do my bit to help develop players at the club in this way.’
