‘Second half of good quality,’ says Advocaat

While Dick Advocaat felt that Feyenoord should have left Arnhem with more than a point on Sunday, the head coach saw a number of bright spots in the goalless draw against Vitesse. ‘We completely dominated the second half,’ he said post-match.

His analysis was based not only on his side’s post-break performance, but also the poor first 45 minutes at Gelredome. ‘We gave Vitesse far too much space then,’ said Advocaat. ‘We lost the ball, we were sloppy. In the second half we had enough chances to settle the game.’

That didn’t happen, however. Nicolai Jørgensen was one of those to spurn a huge chance. ‘His finishing was a bit unfortunate, he’s knows that himself. But I’m happy he played 90 minutes,’ said Advocaat. ‘Plus, he worked enormously hard. That’s a good sign.’

Advocaat also saw positives in the performances of Eric Botteghin and Marcos Senesi. ‘I have to compliment those boys too. The central duo played really well today, while our left and right back were also strong. It’s now about working further as a team on our finishing and our positioning in front of goal to settle games to our advantage.’
