Tapia misses out on Copa América glory with Peru
Brazil proved too strong for Renato Tapia’s Peru in the final of the Copa América on Sunday night. The hosts ran out 3-1 winners in Rio.
Peru and Brazil had already met in the group stage, with the Canarinho waltzing to a 5-0 win. The Incas got better as the tournament went on, though, and made the knockout stage as one of the two best third-place teams. Peru then put Uruguay and Chile to the sword to make the final.
Tapia played 82 minutes for Peru in that final at the Maracanã, but Brazil bossed them again. Goals from Everton, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison won the cup for the hosts. José Paolo Guerrero replied for Peru.
