Toornstra extends Feyenoord stay

Feyenoord and Jens Toornstra have reached agreement on the new deal. The 32-year-old midfielder, who joined the club in 2014, has added another year to his contract, which now runs until mid- 2023. Feyenoord also have an option on extending the deal for a further year after that.
In the opinion of Feyenoord technical director Frank Arnesen, Toornstra personifies the club’s identity. ‘Implacable, always leading the fight, never shirking. Jens is a player who has proven his worth all these seasons. Not only on the pitch but in the dressing room too, and in general as a model pro. Jens is a hugely versatile footballer who we are incredible happy with. So it’s great that he wants to extend his stay at the club.’

Happy
Toornstra didn’t have to think twice about committing to Feyenoord for at least another season. ‘I’ve often said that I love it here and I feel happy,’ said the midfielder. ‘When you get an indication that the club wants to keep you too, that’s really great. I’ve been very successful at the club over the years. I’ve had a brilliant time up till now and I can likely look forward to some more great years.’

Born in Ter Aar, South Holland province, before arriving at De Kuip, Toornstra represented ADO Den Haag and FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie. He made his Dutch national team debut in 2014 and now has four caps, as well as racking up 292 appearances for the Feyenoord first team in official matches. That places him just outside the all-time top ten, but Patrick Paauwe, who has 301 appearances, is well within in his sights.

In his 292 Feyenoord appearances, Toornstra has scored 63 goals and claimed 57 assists. He was named club captain at the start of this season.
