Feyenoord well beaten by AZ

Feyenoord suffered a big defeat at the hands of AZ at De Kuip on Thursday night. The visitors took all the points in a 3-0 win in the Eredivisie. That increases the gap between the two teams to six points at this early stage of the season.
The match against AZ was the first of a busy week for Feyenoord, with three home games in eight days on the fixture list. Jaap Stam’s men wanted to get the series off to a good start with FC Twente and FC Porto up next, but AZ had other ideas.

The visitors had the best of the early skirmishes, with plenty of danger coming from crosses from the left. Feyenoord gradually settled and started to create chances of their own through Steven Berghuis, Jens Toornstra and Orkun Kökcü, albeit without a goal to celebrate.

AZ broke the deadlock just ahead of the break. Forewarned should be forearmed, but Feyenoord were caught out by a low cross by left back Owen Wijndal. Striker Myron Boadu converted. The goal knocked the stuffing out of Feyenoord and AZ took full control. The visitors added two more goals through Calvin Stengs (50) and Oussama Idrissi (83) to claim a 3-0 win.

The first league loss of the season leaves Feyenoord on 10 points from seven Eredivisie games. Next up is the visit of FC Twente on Sunday, kick-off 16:45 CET.
