More than 24 TV stations and about 140 newspapers attended the launch of Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on Thursday. It shows the huge potential in the world’s second biggest country, which has up till now not had its own national league. The India Super League, a megaproject that can be best compared with the MLS stateside, will put that right. A wide array of companies have committed to the league for ten years.
Sameer Manchanda, owner of the parent company DEN Networks and Delhi Dynamos FC, expressed his ambition to build the country’s leading club in partnership with Feyenoord. ‘We want to create a team that inspires and represents the hope and ambitions of our city. That’s why we went looking for the best partner. After the recent World Cup no one can ignore Feyenoord Rotterdam when it comes to developing young talent, so it was an easy decision. Feyenoord will assist us with the overall development of the club and the technical policy.‘
International relations manager Gido Vader attended the presentation on behalf of Feyenoord. ‘This is a fabulous chance for Feyenoord to be associated with the Delhi Dynamos and to start this adventure in India. The opportunities in this country are unlimited and we generate huge exposure for the club. Who knows where it can lead? For now we look forward to supporting the parent DEN Networks in creating a team the city can be proud of and in time to contributing to the development of Indian football.’
The India Super League is expected to kick off at the end of September. The first edition of the new national league will run for just three and a half months, but the aim is to gradually stretch out the season as new clubs join.
