Tennessee Sc brought some of their best U11 and U12 players to Rotterdam for a full week of football, fun and learning. In between the intensive training sessions with Feyenoord's international development coaches Luka Lalic and David Toxopeus the young Americans played Feyenoord's Academy Partners VV Spijkenisse and BVV Barendrecht. Both Dutch clubs were defeated with respective scores of 4-1 and 3-2. The highlight for the players was the friendly match against the Under 10's of the Feyenoord Academy, a game that was narrowly (4-3) lost by the American guests.
The Feyenoord staff looks back with satisfaction on the performance of the youth players from Tennessee. 'The results show that the opponents for the friendly matches were well matched to the level of our partner from Tennessee. Winning is obviously fun, but certainly not the most important in this specific age category. In this week intensive technical, tactical and mental learning moments were the most important for our guests, who did really well’, says David Toxopeus, International Development Coach at Feyenoord. 'It is wonderful to see that Feyenoord is able to make a very positive and instructive contribution to the development of players and coaches overseas and we look forward to a successful continuation of this collaboration.'
On behalf of Tennessee SC, the club whose U15 boys won the American national championship this year, coach Mike Otto was equally satisfied with the week spent at Feyenoord. 'As we have said to the Feyenoord guys many times in the course of that week, the event this year was a very good one and a trip that we can be proud of.'
Besides the performances on the field, there was also time to relax and to visit and enjoy different parts of the Netherlands. During their stay the group explored, among other places, the cities of Delft and Rotterdam by a guided city tour. The players also visited several Eredivisie matches together with their parents and coaches and were able to witness first hand Robin van Persie's amazing free kick goal against Vitesse.
