Anti-climax for Feyenoord in cracker against PSV

The cracker against PSV ended in a major anti-climax for Feyenoord. Coach Robin van Persie's team led 2-0 after ten minutes, but eventually lost 2-3 in injury time. Calvin Stengs made his comeback after months of injury.

The temperature in the already sweltering Kuip quickly rose even further after an unprecedented lightning start by Feyenoord. First, Igor Paixão appreciated a deep ball from Timon Wellenreuther, who finished with a controlled chip. A few minutes later the stadium was upside down again, when Givairo Read steamed through after a good attack to make it 2-0.

The goal came out of nowhere immediately after the break and proved to be the start of an Eindhoven siege. The pressure eventually became too much for Feyenoord, leading to their first league defeat under Robin van Persie. Third place is now the highest Feyenoord can achieve, in that respect, rival FC Utrecht's defeat at FC Twente was a small windfall.
