Feyenoord goes into the international break with a wonderful feeling. The home match against FC Utrecht was won 3-2 thanks to a late goal by Ayase Ueda, who thereby caused great relief in De Kuip.
That it became exciting again shortly before the end was something Feyenoord could blame itself for. The team played a magnificent first half and completely swept FC Utrecht off the pitch, but the match was far from decided at halftime. Only Ueda scored (beautiful assist from Oussama Targhalline), which kept the visitors alive.
The bill for this was presented already one minute into the second half, when, of all people, loanee Gjivai Zechiël equalised. Sem Steijn did provide a new lead shortly afterwards, but little remained of the Rotterdam dominance from before the break. The second equaliser from FC Utrecht seven minutes before time therefore did not come out of nowhere.
It seemed that Feyenoord was heading towards very painful dropped points, and partly because of that Robin van Persie brought on Cyle Larin as a target man. The Canadian proved his value almost immediately with an assist to Ueda, who with his winning goal made the stadium explode with joy.
After the international break, Feyenoord resumes the league with an away match against Heracles Almelo. Kick-off on Sunday 19 October at 16:45.
