Club and Stadium aim to become one

Feyenoord and Stadion Feijenoord want to become one in the near future and have signed a so-called Letter of Intent to this end. Club and Stadion announced the intention last night at Stadion Feijenoord's Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Unification, besides being a long-held wish, is now a necessity, the shareholders were explained. After all, Stadion Feijenoord sees no chance of keeping De Kuip at the required level in the coming years from its own resources.

In order to continue using De Kuip for the next 15 years, large-scale maintenance and improvements are needed. This mainly involves eliminating overdue maintenance. Significant adjustments are also needed to continue to meet the safety requirements, including those of UEFA, for De Kuip to continue playing European football. Furthermore, substantial investment is needed in improvements to the horeca facilities to meet the needs of Feyenoord and today's visitors.

The total cost involved is estimated at €30 to €50 million.

The unification envisaged by the Supervisory and Executive Boards of the club and stadium concerns an integration of Stadion Feijenoord within the Feyenoord organisation. This will ensure continuity, create a strong foundation for both Stadion Feijenoord and Feyenoord stakeholders and will have synergy benefits.

To enable the unification, the approval of a qualified majority of Stadion Feijenoord's shareholders is required. A proposal to the shareholders is therefore currently being worked hard on and should be in place before the end of the current football season.
