Dennis te Kloese is returning to Mexico. Starting July 1, Feyenoord’s outgoing General and Technical Director will take up the role of Presidente Deportivo at Club de Futbol Monterrey.
At Monterrey, where Te Kloese will be responsible for the technical policy of the men’s, women’s and youth teams, he joins what is considered one of the biggest clubs outside Europe and South America. The club’s futuristic fully covered stadium, with a capacity of 53,500, is nicknamed *The Steel Giant* and will serve as one of the three World Cup venues in Mexico this summer.
‘Everything happened quickly, very quickly in fact,’ said Te Kloese, whose departure from Feyenoord at the end of the season was announced on April 23. ‘Within 72 hours after the announcement of my departure from Feyenoord, I received more than a handful of serious offers to come and talk, including from the Premier League, the United States and Mexico. Clubs approaching you want to know immediately whether you are genuinely interested, because otherwise they have to move on to other candidates. That’s why decisions had to be made quickly.’
There were several reasons why Monterrey became the destination of choice. Te Kloese explained: ‘My family and I are now returning to the country where my wife and two daughters were born. It is a country where we truly enjoyed living for many years and where I was able to work successfully. We have great memories there. On top of that, there is a major and exciting challenge waiting at C.F. Monterrey, because the club has struggled somewhat in terms of results in recent years.’
Te Kloese has politely declined the offer of a large farewell reception involving all Feyenoord stakeholders. ‘First of all, I’m still working. Over the coming weeks, I will say goodbye to several people at different moments in smaller settings. There will also be a get-together at De Kuip with all colleagues from both the club and the stadium. Finally, we are planning a lunch with some of the regular media followers. Large-scale events have never really been my thing. Besides, as I have always said, it is not about me but about Feyenoord. I wish the club, my successor and certainly also the many great colleagues nothing but success for the future.’
