Feyenoord and Calvin Stengs part ways

Feyenoord and Calvin Stengs have parted ways with immediate effect. The club and the player have mutually agreed to terminate the attacking midfielder's contract, which was due to run until the summer of 2027. The agreement allows the 27-year-old, who will say his farewells to the squad at the training camp in Brussels on Wednesday evening, to take the next step in his career.

'Saying goodbye to Feyenoord is difficult, because I have felt welcomed and at home here from day one,' said Stengs. 'From everyone at the club to the incredible supporters who are always there. To receive so much positive support from the fans again when I returned this summer and after the first pre-season friendly really meant a lot to me. To the supporters, thank you. You were incredible.'

'Winning trophies here at Feyenoord is something I will always be proud to tell my children about. I don't yet know what the future holds, but this decision is the best one for both of us at this moment. Being able to play football is the most important thing for me now. I wish everyone at the club all the best. I have truly enjoyed my time here and hope to see you all again someday.'

Stengs joined Feyenoord from OGC Nice in the summer of 2023, having won the Belgian league and cup double with Royal Antwerp FC the previous season. Under Arne Slot, the creative left-footer made an immediate impact at Feyenoord. In his first season, he established himself as one of the team's standout performers, registering 8 goals and an impressive 17 assists in 43 appearances.

Stengs scored from a free-kick in the UEFA Champions League victory over Celtic FC and regularly brought Het Legioen to their feet with his many unpredictable moments of inspiration. Against S.S. Lazio, he perhaps produced his best performance of that European campaign in red and white. At the end of the season, he lifted the KNVB Beker, having played a major role in the competition with one goal and three assists. N.E.C. were defeated in the final.

The 2024-2025 season brought fewer highlights than Stengs would have hoped due to injury setbacks, although it began with victory over PSV in the Johan Cruijff Schaal. Whenever he was on the pitch, however, Stengs immediately showed his quality, as he did in the memorable 3-0 home win over Bayern Munich, in which he excelled. He won the penalty that Santiago Giménez converted, but was also forced off through injury.

The attacker made just 16 appearances that season before joining Italian side Pisa SC on loan for the 2025-2026 campaign.

Stengs made 59 official appearances for Feyenoord, scoring 9 goals and providing 21 assists. He also won the KNVB Beker and the Johan Cruijff Schaal during his time at the club.

Feyenoord wish Calvin every success and happiness in the next chapter of his career.
