Robert Eenhoorn has been appointed as Feyenoord's new CEO. The 58-year-old Rotterdammer, who was at the helm of AZ between 2014 and 2024, will officially start at De Kuip on the 1st of July.
Starting out at Rotterdam's Neptunus, Eenhoorn made a name for himself as a top baseball player in Major League Baseball in the 1990s. After his playing career, he developed into a successful coach and sports administrator. He first made his mark in that field in baseball, but since 2014 prominently in football as well.
Although he spent many successful years at AZ, Eenhoorn has had a special connection with Feyenoord since childhood. In 2007, he served as an ambassador for the club for a year, and he played football on the pitches of Varkenoord for Feyenoord's amateur side for over fourteen years.
'It will surprise no one that, as a born and bred Rotterdammer, I am extremely proud to be joining Feyenoord,' said Eenhoorn. 'When I was approached some time ago about potentially succeeding Dennis te Kloese, we had extensive conversations about my role and my vision for the club, and the club's own vision. Those were productive discussions, after which I felt that Feyenoord is now the right choice for me.'
'I am looking forward to getting started, not least because I feel that after a number of good years, the club is ready for a new, or call it a next, step. The most important thing is that we chart the right course together and follow it. The challenge is to ensure that Feyenoord's historic identity is preserved, while also creating all the conditions that a modern top sporting organisation must meet.'
According to Toon van Bodegom, chairman of Feyenoord's Supervisory Board, Robert Eenhoorn was immediately the primary candidate for the position of CEO. 'That Robert's name featured very prominently on our list will come as no surprise. His experience and background played a role in that. But more important than a CV is whether someone's vision aligns with that of the club, and whether you have the conviction that he can provide direction on areas that can be improved and help the club move forward. That was the case. We are therefore convinced that together, with Robert Eenhoorn and very soon also a new technical director, we can really continue to build in the coming years on the solid foundation that has been laid in recent years.'
