Feyenoord and FC Twente have agreed on Sem Steijn's summer transfer. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder will soon sign a four-year deal with Feyenoord, locking him in at De Kuip until mid-2029.
The Hague-born Steijn started playing football at local SV KMD in Wateringen and made the switch to ADO Den Haag's youth academy in 2011. After a season on loan at VVV-Venlo, where he made his Eredivisie debut as a 17-year-old talent against the likes of Feyenoord, and a brief foreign adventure at Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates, Steijn returned to ADO Den Haag in 2019.
In his hometown, he experienced his definitive breakthrough as a professional footballer, upon which he earned a transfer to FC Twente. Over the past three seasons, Steijn grew into one of the Tukkers' carrying forces and impressed with his relentless scoring drive. With 23 goals in the current season, Steijn's name currently tops the Eredivisie's top scorer list.
Feyenoord feel it is important to emphasise that Steijn is a player of FC Twente until the end of the season, where his full focus lies for now. Next summer, he will make the final switch from Enschede to Rotterdam, after which he will be presented at a time to be determined.
