Feyenoord suffered a painful defeat on Sunday during their visit to FC Twente (2-0). Robin van Persie's team not only lost the match, but also two players, and saw their rivals Ajax gain a point in the battle for second place.
It turned out to be a very painful Sunday for Feyenoord, who only really made their presence felt in the opening phase. Anis Hadj Moussa hit the inside of the post after a fine move, but then the home side took the initiative and just about everything went wrong for Rotterdam.
Gijs Smal, who had just recovered from injury, went off after half an hour with another injury. His replacement, Bart Nieuwkoop, suffered a head injury after two minutes and was also unable to continue. And just before half-time, another blow followed in the form of a goal.
In the second half, Feyenoord showed no sign of being able to recover. After the home team made it 2-0, the match was effectively over.
Feyenoord's next league match is on Sunday 8 March at 4.45 p.m. away against NAC Breda.
