Feyenoord opens up gap with victory over Telstar

Feyenoord did well on Sunday evening in the battle for second place in the Eredivisie. Thanks to a 2-1 victory, Robin van Persie's team opened up a five-point gap over their two closest rivals. Raheem Sterling made his official debut for the club as a substitute.

t was a night of two halves for Feyenoord. The first half was a joy to watch at times: the team played with great power and energy and created one chance after another. It was all the more disappointing that the visitors took the lead from their very first counterattack, but order was restored before half-time.

Anis Hadj Moussa was responsible for both Rotterdam goals, both times from passes by Jordan Bos, who made an excellent impression on the left wing. Feyenoord went into the break with a lead, but given the number of chances, the match should have been decided by then.

Partly due to forced substitutions, the second half was a lot less impressive for Rotterdam. Bos and Anel Ahmedhodžić were unable to continue at half-time, and substitute Jeremiah St. Juste also failed to make it to the end. In the final phase, Feyenoord's decline almost cost them the victory, but thanks in part to strong goalkeeping by Timon Wellenreuther, the three points remained at De Kuip.

Feyenoord's next league match is away against FC Twente next week, on Sunday 1 March at 14:30.
