Feyenoord sign Japanese defender Rio Sasaki

“It is an honour to have the opportunity to play for a big club like Feyenoord,” said Sasaki. “I’ve heard many great things about the club, the supporters and the ambition surrounding the women’s team. I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates, continuing to develop as a player, and achieving great results together.”

Sasaki came through the renowned JFA Academy Fukushima, one of Japan’s most prestigious youth academies for women’s football. In 2022, she signed for Mynavi Sendai Ladies, where she quickly established herself as a regular starter. She went on to make 54 official appearances for the club.
