Feyenoord and Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge have agreed on the immediate transfer of Japanese international Ayase Ueda. The 24-year-old striker has signed a five year contract with Feyenoord, until June 2028.
Ueda, who was born in Mito, Japan, rose through the ranks of J1 League club Kashima Antlers FC and made his official debut for the club in 2019. In the three seasons that followed, Ueda managed to score 47 goals in 103 appearances for Kashima Antlers.
His success in Japan landed Ueda a transfer to Cercle Brugge in the summer of 2022, where he not only continued to perform well netting 23 goals in 42 matches, but also earned himself a spot on Japan’s 2022 FIFA World Cup roster.
In joining Feyenoord, Ueda follows in the footsteps of his fellow countryman Shinji Ono, who was a crowd favorite in De Kuip between 2001 and 2005 and was one of the mainstays of the team that won the 2002 UEFA Cup.
