This is the third time this season that Feyenoord has dropped points at De Kuip. For the fourth time in five seasons, they failed to beat Fortuna Sittard at home: 1-1.
It was Shiloh ’T Zand, of all people, who plunged De Kuip into deep mourning, five minutes before the end of a match that should have been decided long ago. The Feyenoord loanee found the back of the net with just about Fortuna Sittard’s first shot on goal, a goal that richly rewarded a style of play that had little to do with football.
Feyenoord, however, had only themselves to blame for failing to win at home once again. Despite the tight spaces, the team had plenty of chances to secure the victory but were too often sloppy with them. That cost Feyenoord dearly, as only Luciano Valente managed to score - and that wasn’t enough to win.
A particularly bitter pill to swallow for Feyenoord, which has now given its pursuers in the standings the chance to close the gap. The next match is this coming Tuesday in the Champions League, at home against Inter (kickoff at 9:00 p.m.).
