Feyenoord suffered a disappointing defeat on Sunday. In the seventeenth round of the Eurojackpot Women’s Eredivisie, Jessica Torny’s side went down 2–1 away to sc Heerenveen after a poor performance.
From the very first whistle, Feyenoord struggled against the Frisian side at the Abe Lenstra Stadium. After just six minutes, Justine Brandau had to make a crucial goal-line clearance to prevent an early concession.
After 25 minutes, the home side still took a 1–0 lead. Feyenoord, who had hardly created any real chances up to that point, started to play better after going behind.
Itamura shows her class
Ten minutes later, Japanese forward Mao Itamura once again showed her quality this season: after a fine individual move, she scored from distance.
A few minutes before half-time, Feyenoord had a big chance to take the lead, but a cross from Zera Hulswit just evaded Esmee de Graaf.
Second half
After the break, Feyenoord created several huge chances but were wasteful in front of goal. In the final minute of regular time, the ball ended up in the net at the other end. Final score: 2–1.
Top three pull away
Following this disappointing defeat, Feyenoord see the top three in the Eurojackpot Women’s Eredivisie pull further away. The other teams (PSV, FC Twente and Ajax) all won their matches. Feyenoord remain in fourth place, but the gap to leaders PSV has grown to five points.
