Feyenoord lost their second preseason friendly of the season. Despite Jessica Torny’s side playing a good match against German club SGS Essen, the game on Saturday afternoon ended in a 1-4 defeat.
With new signings Akari Takeshige and Kokona Iwasaki in the starting lineup, Feyenoord began the match at Papendal Sports Center with great intensity.
The German opponent, who had beaten FC Twente 2-0 in a friendly last week, struggled to cope with the high pressing Feyenoord applied from the start.
Reward
After 18 minutes, Kokona Iwasaki crowned her unofficial debut with a goal. With a low, powerful shot she put Feyenoord 1-0 ahead.
Feyenoord looked to push on from there, but two lapses in concentration allowed Essen to score twice in the space of three minutes.
Chances
After the break, Feyenoord—having made several substitutions—kept pressing and created big chances to equalize. A shot from Dechamaily Lont was cleared off the line, and Kirsten van de Westeringh hit the crossbar with an effort.
In the closing stages, fatigue started to set in for several Feyenoord players, and Essen took full advantage. Two goals in the final ten minutes sealed a 1-4 scoreline.
