Feyenoord have wrapped up their preparations for the new season with a defeat. On Saturday afternoon in Bruges, Jessica Torny’s side went down 3-1 against Club YLA, the first team of Club Brugge’s women’s section.
In the shadow of the Jan Breydel Stadium, Feyenoord started the match poorly. Within just 11 minutes, the home side had taken advantage of two weak moments in the Feyenoord defense, putting the score at 2-0.
After this early setback, Torny’s team gradually managed to settle and grow into the game.
After 17 minutes, the referee pointed to the spot following a foul on Ella Van Kerkhoven. The Belgian striker for Feyenoord stepped up herself, but saw her effort saved by the home goalkeeper.
Back in the game
A minute later Feyenoord did find the net: Club YLA failed to clear after a corner, and Lucy Heij smashed the ball into the top corner. With the goal back, Feyenoord gained more confidence and pushed for the equalizer.
After the break, Feyenoord came close to leveling the score on several occasions. At the other end, Club YLA also created chances, but the outstanding Jacintha Weimar kept her side in it with some fine saves.
Ten minutes from time, the home team scored a third goal against the run of play. Final score: 3-1.
Season kickoff
Feyenoord’s preseason is now complete. Next Sunday the team begin their new campaign in the Eurojackpot Vrouwen Eredivisie, with an away match against NAC Breda (kick-off: 12:15).
