The season is officially over for Feyenoord V1. Just a few days after securing third place in the Eurojackpot Vrouwen Eredivisie and clinching the club’s first-ever European qualification spot, the team was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Eredivisie Cup. Ajax proved too strong in Amsterdam, winning 3-0.
At a scorching-hot Sportcomplex De Toekomst on Monday afternoon, Feyenoord controlled much of the game during the opening half hour. Jessica Torny’s side also created chances to open the scoring, but lacked sharpness in front of goal.
After halftime, the momentum began to shift. A few minutes into the second half, Ajax took a 1-0 lead, and Feyenoord started to struggle.
Within the space of ten minutes, not only did Ajax make it 2-0, but Feyenoord defender Justine Brandau was also shown a red card for a foul on an Ajax player who was through on goal. That made the task of turning the match around even more difficult for Feyenoord. Ten minutes before full time, Ajax added a third goal to make it 3-0.
The season is now over for Feyenoord. The Eredivisie Cup final will be played this Friday, with Ajax facing PSV, who defeated FC Twente 2-0 in the other semi-final.
