Feyenoord has started the new season on a strong note. On Friday morning at Varkenoord, Jessica Torny’s team defeated city rivals Excelsior with an emphatic 5-1 scoreline.
The first friendly match of the season brought plenty of positives for Feyenoord. Justine Brandau made her return to the matchday squad. The 23-year-old defender, who last played in November of last year, started in the lineup and came close to scoring with a shot that hit the post.
Eva van Deursen and Claire Dinkla, who joined this summer from Eibar and Fortuna Sittard respectively, made their first (unofficial) appearances for Feyenoord on Friday. Van Deursen marked her debut with a goal.
First half
The match, played in two halves of 30 minutes, took some time to get going. Feyenoord was the better side in the first half but couldn’t find the net. At the break, the score remained 0-0.
Plenty of goals after the break
Things moved quickly after halftime. An unfortunate own goal by Excelsior opened the scoring, and shortly after, Dechamaily Lont—who spent last season on loan at Excelsior—made it 2-0.
Excelsior pulled one back to make it 2-1, but goals from Romée van de Lavoir, Eva van Deursen, and Zera Hulswit sealed a comfortable 5-1 win for Feyenoord.
