Feyenoord has begun the new season with a victory. At the Rat Verlegh Stadium, Jessica Torny’s team had a tough time against newcomers NAC Breda, but Feyenoord ultimately managed to win the match 1–3.
In sunny Breda on Sunday, Feyenoord actually struggled right from the kickoff against a sharp and fiery NAC, who wanted to give their historic first match in the Eurojackpot Vrouwen Eredivisie some extra sparkle.
Feyenoord was the better side but wasted possession and created chances. Just over half an hour in, the breakthrough finally came: newly appointed captain Celainy Obispo fired the ball home powerfully from a corner.
Right before halftime, Feyenoord doubled the lead. Kokona Iwasaki, who signed with the club this summer and was making her first start in Breda, scored in stoppage time of the first half to make it 0–2.
Second half
With a comfortable lead in hand, Feyenoord went in search of a third goal after the break, but the team was again too careless. Chances were there, but the finishing touch in front of goal was missing.
A quarter of an hour before the end, the match suddenly became tense when NAC pulled one back to make it 1–2. Feyenoord faced a nerve-racking finale, having to be careful not to let the game slip away.
Just before full time, substitute Sanne Koopman ended all uncertainty by sliding in the 1–3.
