Feyenoord V1 began the new season with a draw. The match against AZ ended 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at Varkenoord. Maruschka Waldus scored the goal for Feyenoord.
Jessica Torny's team started the match strongly at their home ground, Varkenoord. In the opening phase, there were several big chances, but none of them found the net.
After 22 minutes, it was captain Waldus who opened the scoring. She slid a ball past AZ’s goalkeeper, giving her team a deserved lead in her official debut for Feyenoord.
Unfocused
Feyenoord had opportunities to extend the lead before halftime but was unfocused in finishing. Esmee de Graaf had a chance to make it 2-0 two minutes before the break, but was denied by the Alkmaar keeper.
Second half
While Feyenoord played strongly in the first half, the team struggled more after the break. AZ created a number of chances and eventually equalized. A corner kick from the visitors led to a messy situation in front of Feyenoord goalkeeper Jacintha Weimar, and the ball ended up in the net: 1-1.
In the closing stages, Feyenoord had more chances, but it was AZ that came very close to winning in stoppage time. In the 94th minute, an AZ player went one-on-one with Weimar, who made a brilliant save to prevent a loss. The following rebound hit the outside of the post. Final score: 1-1.
