Feyenoord V1 suffer home defeat against Ajax

Four days earlier, Feyenoord had secured their place in the main draw of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup in Norway, despite a 2-1 defeat against Vålerenga. Against Ajax, the visitors had most of the possession in the opening stages and created a few half-chances, although without finding the opening goal.

As the first half progressed, Feyenoord grew into the game and started to create opportunities of their own. Tess van Bentem came closest, hitting the crossbar with an effort.

Ajax nevertheless took the lead on the half-hour mark. A free-kick was headed in for 0-1 in the 30th minute. Six minutes later, Feyenoord’s deficit was doubled when Ajax were awarded a penalty and converted it to make it 0-2.

Feyenoord responded immediately after the break. Pieters’ side were awarded a penalty of their own, which Tori DellaPeruta converted to make it 1-2. The goal gave Feyenoord renewed hope, and the team produced a better second-half performance than they had before the break.

An equaliser did not follow, however. Ajax made it 1-3 in the 68th minute, restoring their two-goal advantage. In stoppage time, the visitors added another to make the final score 1-4.

The match also saw Casey Phair and Joni Paliama make their official debuts for Feyenoord V1. Phair came on in the 65th minute, while Paliama made her first official appearance in the closing stages.
