Feyenoord V1 take strong advantage against Vålerenga

Vålerenga, three-time Norwegian champions and runners-up in the league last season, took the lead after just four minutes. Feyenoord responded well and gradually grew stronger as the first half went on.

After around half an hour, the first big chances followed. Eva van Deursen saw an effort narrowly kept out by the Vålerenga keeper. In first-half stoppage time, Feyenoord finally drew level. Tori DellaPeruta struck from distance to make it 1-1.

Shortly after the break, DellaPeruta found the net again. In the 49th minute, she caught the Norwegian keeper out with a fine long-range effort to put Feyenoord 2-1 ahead. Ten minutes later, Kirsten van de Westeringh, who had come on at half-time, made it 3-1 with another excellent strike from around 25 metres into the top corner.

Feyenoord extended their lead late on. Substitute Fleur Stoit scored in the 88th minute to make the final score 4-1.

The match was also a special one for Esmee de Graaf. After Celainy Obispo and Romée van de Lavoir, she became the third player in club history to make 100 official appearances for Feyenoord.

Next Wednesday, Feyenoord play the return leg against Vålerenga in Norway. That match will decide which team progresses to the next round of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup.
