A toothless Feyenoord failed to add lustre to head coach Robin van Persie's Feyenoord debut on Saturday night. In a game in which Feyenoord did dominate, the team remained stuck at 0-0.
It should have been a fine evening for the brand-new Feyenoord 1 coach. Although Feyenoord were more emphatic in the first half, no major chances were created. Only Anis Hadj Moussa managed a goal attempt. N.E.C. did take a shot at Timon Wellenreuther's goal, but both attempts were turned away by the keeper.
Late in the second half, Feyenoord were trailing 0-1, but after VAR intervention the goal was disallowed due to hands. A few minutes later, De Kuip was buoyed by substitute Stéphano Carrillo's opening goal. However, the euphoria was short-lived. Dávid Hancko extended the ball in an offside position and so Carrillo's first goal went astray. Neither team could make a fist in the closing stages. The score remained unchanged: 0-0.
