Feyenoord grabbed a point at Manchester City on Tuesday thanks to a sensational comeback. The team looked to be heading for a big defeat in the away game in the fifth round of the Champions League when the score was 3-0 after 75 minutes. In the final 15 minutes, Feyenoord performed the impossible by clawing their way back to a draw: 3-3.
At a full Etihad Stadium, Feyenoord could keep up with the reigning champions of England for a long time, until things went wrong both shortly and after half-time. First Erling Haaland converted a penalty kick at the end of the first half (foul Quinten Timber) and shortly after the tea break the deficit quickly increased further through goals by Ilkay Gundogan and another Haaland.
With the 3-1 - his fourth goal in four games - Anis Hadj Moussa initially seemed to save the honour alone for Feyenoord. But after the 3-2 soon after from Santiago Gimenez, who made his comeback after two months of injury, everyone in the Rotterdam camp suddenly believed in a miracle.
That miracle happened in the final minute, when Dávid Hancko made the away crowd divided into three rings explode with joy. On a pass from Igor Paixão, who skilfully rounded the keeper, he headed the 3-3 against the ropes, giving Feyenoord an unhoped-for point on a visit to one of Europe's strongest teams.
Feyenoord's next Champions League match is on Wednesday 11 December at home against Sparta Prague. Next Saturday, the Eredivisie continues with a home game against Fortuna Sittard.
