Timber new captain Feyenoord

Quinten Timber will wear the captain's armband in Feyenoord's away match against FC Groningen on Saturday. The international was named as the team's new captain by Brian Priske this week.

'It is an honor for me to be captain of Feyenoord,' Timber responded Friday. 'I am very happy about it and hope to fill this role as well as I can. I have spoken about it with the coach; he and the club have expressed confidence in me. Since I joined Feyenoord, I have been trying to show all my leadership qualities. I try to continue that and not change much in that sense.'

With Timber as captain, Feyenoord travels to the far north today (Friday), where the league resumes against FC Groningen on Saturday. Priske's side last saw action on August 25 against Sparta, followed by two weekends without a game.

'We would have loved to play the Klassieker (postponed because of police strikes, ed.), but the past few weeks have been good for us,' Priske said Friday at the press conference. 'Now we are hungry to play again.'

The coach foresees a tough night at Stadion Euroborg, where Eredivisie soccer will be played again after a year's absence. 'Colleagues on the staff have visited FC Groningen matches. They have a good, young squad and fanatical supporters. It will be difficult, no doubt, but we definitely want to take three points.'

The press conference with Priske from Friday, September 13 can be seen on Feyenoord ONE.

FC Groningen - Feyenoord starts Saturday at 18:45 and will be broadcast live on ESPN 2.
