We will soon be one!

Feyenoord will become the owner of De Kuip following the outcome of an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting of Stadion Feijenoord held on Thursday evening. The decision fulfils a long-held ambition of both organisations and marks the first step towards the improvement and redevelopment of Feyenoord’s home stadium.

‘We are here to stay. We have said this before when discussing our long-term plans for De Kuip, and this is an important first step,’ said Lilian de Leeuw, Managing Director of Stadion Feijenoord. ‘Thanks to the cooperation of the stadium’s shareholders, we can now take the necessary next steps towards a renewed De Kuip that meets the expectations of both the club and its supporters. Following the unification of club and stadium, Feyenoord has committed to investing an additional €41 million over the coming years in overdue maintenance, as well as improvements to atmosphere, comfort and commercial opportunities. It is also an important step in relation to the wider development of the Stadium District.’

First Steps
Subject to the required approval of the merger by the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), the first phase will focus on addressing overdue maintenance. Up to and including 2028, this will be the priority, alongside several improvements that can be implemented in the short term.

These measures are intended to enhance the matchday experience for all visitors to the stadium, as well as for staff working at De Kuip.

The Next Phase
At the same time, a long-term programme will begin with the aim of delivering a renewed De Kuip by 2040.
‘This process, together with the development of the entire area surrounding the stadium, is already underway,’ De Leeuw explained. ‘Following this step, we can continue that work so that we know exactly what the renewed stadium should look like and how it will fit within its surroundings. That will be the first phase, after which the actual redevelopment can begin.’

One Organisation
At present, Feyenoord and Stadion Feijenoord operate as two separate organisations. That will change.
‘There will be one Supervisory Board for the combined organisation,’ said De Leeuw. ‘This will strengthen the cooperation between club and stadium even further. We will become one. Finally.’
