Advocaat ‘can live with a draw’

Dick Advocaat felt that a draw was a fair result at Groningen on Sunday. ‘Looking at how the match went, I can be satisfied with this result,’ said Feyenoord’s head coach after the final whistle. ‘FC Groningen played with great aggression and in a difficult system. It was mostly a battle, there was a lot of energy, not always good football. Because of that I can live with 1-1.’

‘FC Groningen were on top for periods, but we had the best chances,’ said Advocaat. ‘We should have played better football, but we didn’t manage to. In spite of Groningen having more possession, they made few guilt-edged chances. I think the penalty they scored from was justified.’

‘Senesi exudes calm’
One reason why Groningen were unable to make much of a fist of it in attack was the performance of Marcos Senesi, who played in spite of an arm injury. The Argentinian was described as ‘excellent’ by Advocaat. ‘He exudes calm. His communication is also getting better. He has two private lessons a week, at the club. So Marcos is working intensively on his language skills.’

Advocaat also gave an update on a few players from the treatment room. ‘Rick Karsdorp is not available for the time being,’ the head coach said. ‘We expect him back in the group in two weeks.’ He was less firm about Nicolai Jørgensen’s return. ‘It’s hard to say whether he will make Thursday,’ Advocaat said about the Dane.
