Feyenoord battle for three points in Waalwijk

An away trip to RKC has long been a tricky fixture for Feyenoord and Sunday’s Eredivisie encounter at the Mandemakers Stadium was no exception. It proved to be another tough afternoon for Arne Slot’s side, but it all came out well in the end as a second-half Danilo penalty secured all three points in a 1-0 win for the visitors.

Feyenoord had won just nine of the previous 25 meetings in Waalwijk, so everyone knew the visitors would have to work hard for their points. And the hosts did not disappoint.

Debut for Hartman
With Quilindschy Hartman making his bow as starting left back the spirits were high, but Feyenoord barely created a chance of note in the opening 45 minutes. RKC rarely troubled Justin Bijlow’s goal, but by half time it was clear that Feyenoord needed to step it up a gear to get the right result.

The introduction of Jens Toornstra and Patrik Wålemark at the start of the second half gave Feyenoord the impetus they were lacking before the break. And when the Swede was fouled in the box, Danilo stepped up to convert the penalty, claiming his third goal of the fledgling Eredivisie season.

Hosting FC Emmen
Good defensive work from Gernot Trauner and others kept the hosts out, although Bijlow was called into action in the dying minutes to protect the slender lead. It meant that Feyenoord travelled back northwards with three more points to add to their early Eredivisie total.

Next up for Feyenoord is a home fixture against FC Emmen on Saturday evening (kick-off 20:00 CET). Secure one of the remaining seats for that one at the Online Ticketshop.
