Feyenoord beat Salzburg on last day of training camp

Feyenoord wrapped up their Austria training camp on Saturday afternoon with a practice match win against Red Bull Salzburg in Anif. The Austrian champions were beaten 2-1 thanks to goals by Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Mo Taabouni.
The returning internationals were given their first outing during the second practice match of preseason. It meant that Arne Slot’s side had a familiar look to it in terms of personnel, although they did play in a brand-new strip. The black and pink third strip for the coming season was revealed just a couple of hours before kick-off, which resulted in a rush of orders at the Online Fanshop.

But while business was brisk online, Feyenoord were slow to get going on the pitch. The match was barely five minutes old when the Austrians grabbed the lead through Dijon Kameri. Alireza Jahanbakhsh levelled just ahead of the break, which was at least as much as Arne Slot’s side deserved bearing in their fine play and control in the first half.

Feyenoord’s starting eleven were replaced en bloc for the start of the second half, with a host of youth players entering the fray. They gave an excellent account of themselves, ultimately securing the first win of preseason. The Austrians’ attempt to build from the back was disrupted by some energetic pressing and after Feyenoord gained possession, the ball was played into Mo Taabouni who stroked home from around the edge of the box.

The referee’s final whistle confirmed the victory and signalled the end of the training camp. The Feyenoord party fly straight back to Rotterdam on Saturday evening. The next preseason fixture is scheduled for Saturday 16 July, when Belgian outfit Union Sint-Gilles provide the opposition at Varkenoord (kick-off 14:00). Buy your tickets here.
