Feyenoord reach Conference League semifinals

Feyenoord grabbed a great win at Slavia Prague on Thursday night to qualify for the last four of the Europa Conference League. Two goals from Cyriel Dessers and a Luis Sinisterra strike steered Arne Slot’s side to a 3-1 win at the Sinobo Stadium in the Czech capital.

It was set up to be a tense night in Prague as the sides went head to head for the fourth time this season. They had met twice in the group stage of the competition, with Feyenoord winning 2-1 at De Kuip, followed by a 2-2 draw at Slavia. But the Czechs had forced 3-3 draw in an eventful encounter on their second trip to Rotterdam of the campaign last week, setting up a winner-takes-all showdown in the Prague district of Vršovice.

Cyriel Dessers edged Feyenoord ahead early on but an Ibrahim Traoré reply within the opening quarter of an hour brought the hosts back level and the sides went in at half time all-square. The picture changed radically after the break however, as Dessers pounced on a mistake in the home defence and then kept his composure to finish mercilessly.

Luis Sinisterra completed the job ten minutes from time, netting Feyenoord’s third of the night to secure a semi-final berth in the competition’s inaugural season. They will take on Olympique Marseille over two legs for a place in the final. The first leg is scheduled for 28 April at De Kuip, with the return on 5 May at Stade de Marseille.
