Jaap Stam leaves Feyenoord
Jaap Stam has resigned from his position as head coach at Feyenoord with immediate effect. The technical staff will assume his duties for the time being. The club is now looking for a long-term solution, which it hopes to present within the foreseeable future.
Technical director Sjaak Troost regrets Stam’s decision. ‘The coach certainly had our support and the playing group also wanted to continue with him. But when someone says ‘I no longer belief in it and I don’t want to go on,’ then we respect that and it ends. However much of a shame that may be.’
Stam says that it ‘certainly has not been an easy decision. I have thought about it long and hard. My ultimate conclusion is that it is better for the club, the players and myself if I step aside.’
Jaap Stam was in his first season as head coach at De Kuip.
